Mongolia's National Center Against Violence (NCAV)
NCAV was established in 1995 as a non-governmental organization. Since Mongolia's abrupt transition to a market economy in 1990, domestic violence has grown into a serious and epidemic problem. The NCAV was one of the first non-governmental organizations to pioneer the battle against domestic violence and it remains a powerful voice in Mongolia for preventing violence against women and children. The NCAV was part of a coalition of women's rights NGO's that worked to successfully support Mongolia's first domestic violence legislation, implemented in 2004. The NCAV has a staff of 14 and has 11 local branch offices. The NCAV is a very active and effective organization that has attracted donors ranging USAID to the Asia Foundation to the Soros Foundation.
Some of NCAV's current projects and programs include: 1) a Child Protection Unit; 2) a Comprehensive Networking Service; 3) the Engagement of Men in Prevention of Violence program; 3) the Engagement of Public Participation; 4) a Shelter House Network; and 5) a Gender Development and Legal Reform Unit. The NCAV would be particularly interested in volunteers with expertise in domestic violence issues.
