The Feminist League

The Feminist League is one of the first women's rights organizations in Kazakhstan set up after the country gained independence in 1991. The Feminist League was established in 1993 and works on the national level to promote the equality of women and men in all spheres of life: economic, political, social, cultural, and within the home. The Feminist League promotes the equality of women primarily through its core programs, including:

  • Maintaining one of the only libraries in Kazakhstan on women's issues.
  • Researching and publishing reports on women's issues.
  • Providing informational support to women's NGOs and to the media.
  • Monitoring gender-related legislation in Kazakhstan.
  • Providing education about women's issues.

The Feminist League is located in Almaty and can be reached at feminist@women.kz. (The Feminist League maintains a Web site (www.women.kz), however, it does not provide an English translation.)
